Dear Allan,

In this month's newsletter, we want to focus on the various methods of measuring vibration in units of displacement.

No longer is displacement just a measurement made by proximity probes. Read on to discouver new alternatives.

And of course, download our "MONTHLY TECHNICAL NOTE" further down the page on the left; a new technical / application note will appear each month - save them in your library for future reference.

DISPLACEMENT MEASUREMENT
Displacement Measurement - New Alternatives

Move over 'Proximity' probes, ProvibTech Proximity Probethere are new, less costly, and simple to install alternatives for measuring displacement.

Wilcoxon Research, Inc - MD has been manufacturing accelerometers and related vibration instrumentation for over 40 years.   Wilcoxon has recently expanded their line of vibration products to include two(2) new alternatives for displacement measurement:
  • iT230 Transmitter Series
  • PC420DPP Loop Powered Transmitter
The Wilcoxon iT230 Series DIN rail iT Transmittermounted transmitter works in conjunction with either Wilcoxon's machine mounted Model 793V or Model 797V Piezovelocity Transducers.   The iT230 Series can be ordered with output scaling in mils (rms). mils (p-p) or mils (true peak); the proportional 4-20 ma output can be used by DCS or PLc's for continous monitoring and alarming.  The iT230 Series is powered by 24VDC instrument power which in turn powers the remote machine mounted piezovelocity transducer,  Links for additional information follows:

If the iT230 Series wasn't simple enough toPC420D Displacement Transmitter install, then you will really appreciate the simplicity of Wilcoxon's Model PC420DPP-40 loop powered two-wire vibration transmitter.
Machine mounted via a standard 1/4-28 stud, the PC420DPP-40 looks like any other top connector accelerometer; however mounted inside the hermetically sealed body are all the necessary electronics for converting/conditioning machine vibration to a 0-40 mil range, proportional to an output of 4-20 ma.  The MIL 2-socket connect and companion 2-cond. shielded cable carry the 4-20 ma signal directly from the machine to the customers DCS or PLc for continuous monitoring.

At a savings of between 40% & 60% on hardware only (depending on model selected) over conventional proximity probes, these field proven alternatives should be a MUST CONSIDER when one evaluates their next vibration application requiring measurement in units of displacement.  If one considers new installation costs on top of the hardware costs and the choice becomes even clearer!

PRESENTATION
Condition Based Maintenance
Learn how simplified condition based maintenance utilizing 4-20 mA vibration sensors and transmitters:
  • Decreases the cost of continuous vibration monitoring
  • Doesn't require a vibration expert to understand the output
  • Helps plan maintenance and decrease unscheduled downtime
  • Are ideal for Balance of Plant and non-spared equipment

WORLD'S SMALLEST B-SCAN ENCODER
New EZ Scan
EZ Scan Encoder The new EZ Scan encoder from Danatronics offers some very impressive features, particularly given its small size (3"x2"x1.5").  The EZ Scan has been designed for use with Danatronics' Color Wave Ultrasonic Thickness gage equipped with the B-Scan and Data Logger options.  The EZ Scan has magnetic wheels for ease of use on ferrous materials, high temperature capability and even a couplant delivery port.  When combined with the EHC-09DLCW, the system is both unique and small while offering all the features of larger, flaw dectector based systems typically costing in excess of $12K..

B-Scan with Encoder
EZ Scan is the fast, simple, portable and affordable way to document your ultrasonic thickness gaging and B-Scan inspections.
